You may have a favorite season to go backpacking hiking, but in fact hiking can be enjoyed all year-round. Each season has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it would add to your enjoyment if you could make the most out of each hiking season. You can do so by varying the places and the seasons when you go backpacking hiking.
Spring
When the first warm sunshine of spring comes out, you would most likely want to go out for a brisk hike in the woods. Nothing is more delightful than filling your senses with the thrill of nature coming back to life after a long winter. This is the time when rivers will rise to their highest levels; when waterfalls regain their roar and create swirling powerful whirlpools. You’ll need to be careful, though, as the hiking trails may get sodden and slippery with mud.
Summer
Backpacking hiking during summer means you have to be prepared for the discomfort, humidity and heat that the season brings. You should remember to slow your pace down a bit and have an extra bottle of water handy to keep yourself properly hydrated. A quick refreshing dip in a cool spring should bring you pleasant relief should you decide to camp near the water.
Summer means vacation time for the kids. As there are now many hiking gear trails to choose from, get out of the home, take out your hiking equipment and have a good hike. This is the right time to pack some hiking supplies and strap on your Coleman Tatarian X55 Internal Pack and start setting out early in the morning to explore the wilderness.
In addition to the heat, the mosquitoes that come with summer may make the outdoors unbearable, especially if you forget to stuff some insect repellent into your hiking pack. You may want to go backpacking hiking in places with few mosquitoes, or in windy places like bare mountaintops and seashores.
Autumn
Many backpackers and hikers find autumn, with its extravagant colors, as the perfect season to be out in the wilderness. Feast your eyes upon red, yellow and orange leaves or feel them underfoot like a natural carpet leading you up the hillsides. You can walk faster in the cool weather and invigorating air of autumn. Keep a watchful eye for wildlife, which will also be on the prowl.
Winter
You may think winter is an inappropriate season to go backpacking hiking on the trails. There is a certain appeal to hiking in winter. You will have to protect yourself against the snow and cold temperatures, but there is much pleasure to be derived from a hike along a snow-covered trail. There are actually a good number of nature centers and parks that have marked out and maintained winter hiking trails. Make sure you put on proper cold-weather clothing and keep your pace brisk to generate sufficient warmth for several hours out in the open.
Because of the freezing temperature when you go winter backpacking hiking, you should never forget to bring along your Coleman Exponent CloudcroftTM X0L Mummy sleeping bag to keep you warm at nights. |
